Anew

Since today is March first, that must mean yesterday was February 28th, right? Not so, in this, our “Leap Year.” Yesterday was February 29th! Bonus! An “extra day” as declared by my friend City Councilman Jay Schwartz. He asserted with an air of gratitude; of the constructive things he was going to do with this extra day that would have a positive impact on his life. First, I commend him for his words of encouragement. They inspired this blog. Second, I would like to look at the “extra day” in a much broader context if I may be allowed the liberty.

Our whole calendar is marked with many days to celebrate. Holidays, birthdays, Hallmark holidays. The vernal and autumnal equinoxes. Days that we should feel joy for whatever reason. The extra day off. The family gatherings. The renewal.

Let's change our mental calendars from orbital to rotational.

We are two months removed from “New Year’s Day.” A day for fresh starts, new beginnings, and countless resolutions. Spring is around the corner. Opening Day is soon after. The quintessential day of optimism for any baseball fan. I say let’s take these feelings of hope with each turn of the globe. Why wait for all the aforementioned “days” to proclaim our promise for better tomorrows? Let’s change our mental calendar from orbital to rotational in earth terms. Let each day be an “Extra day.” We all only have so many. We would be remiss to not celebrate each one.
